Summit County is the reason people fly to Denver rather than anywhere else to ski. Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper Mountain, Arapahoe Basin and Loveland sit within a short drive of one another either side of the Divide, and a single trip can reasonably ski three of them. Everything here is high: Breckenridge tops out above 12,800 feet and A-Basin's base is higher than many resorts' summits, which makes altitude a genuine planning matter rather than a footnote. Frisco and Dillon sit in the middle and are the practical, cheaper base; Breckenridge town is the most pleasant and the most expensive; Keystone and Copper are self-contained resort villages. Everyone arrives the same way, through the Eisenhower Tunnel on I-70, and that road is the single biggest variable in the trip.
