Rumney is a compact, tiered hillside of south-facing schist a couple of miles west of Rumney village. The climbing is almost entirely bolted, from friendly slabs at the Meadows to some of the hardest routes in the country at Waimea. Cliffs sit close to the road, approaches are short, and the whole area is inside the White Mountain National Forest. Plymouth, fifteen minutes east, is the practical base for food, fuel and hotels; camping and hostels are scattered along Route 25 and up toward Lincoln.
