Red Rock Canyon
A sandstone escarpment twenty minutes from the Las Vegas Strip.
Checking the forecast…
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area rises straight out of the desert west of Las Vegas. The east-facing Calico Hills along the scenic loop hold dense, quick-approach sport climbing; the big canyons behind them (Pine Creek, Juniper, Black Velvet) hold some of the best multi-pitch trad in the country. Winter and shoulder seasons are prime. Most visitors stay in Summerlin on the city's west edge, or at the BLM campground on the approach road. Note the timed-entry system on the scenic loop for much of the year.
