Park City's advantage is logistical before it is anything else. Salt Lake City International is around forty minutes away up I-80 and through Parley's Canyon, with no mountain pass in the way, which makes a long weekend genuinely practical in a way that most western skiing is not. Park City Mountain is the largest resort in the United States by acreage, sprawling and mostly intermediate, with lifts running from the end of Main Street. Deer Valley sits next door, grooms obsessively, caps its ticket sales and famously does not allow snowboards. The old mining town underneath both is the actual draw for a lot of people: it has restaurants and bars rather than a purpose-built village, and a free bus system that makes going without a car realistic.
