Clear Creek Canyon
Roadside gneiss sport climbing in a canyon twenty minutes from Golden.
Checking the forecast…
Clear Creek Canyon runs west from Golden along US-6, and the climbing is stacked on both walls above the creek and the road. It is overwhelmingly bolted, steep and short, on a hard metamorphic rock that takes bolts well and rewards pulling hard. Approaches are measured in minutes, several walls are directly above the pullouts, and the whole canyon is close enough to Denver to climb after work. Jefferson County Open Space manages much of it, and bridges and trails built over the last decade have made access far better than it used to be.
